High value personal items

Cover for individual items or sets of items is limited to $3,000 (laptop computers and associated equipment are covered automatically up to a limit of $6,000).

You can apply for an extension to cover items of higher value, up to a maximum of $10,000 per item or set of items. Any items covered for a higher limit are referred to as 'specified items'.

 To purchase a higher limit of cover for any specified items, enter your trip details here and select 'cover for high value personal items'. You will need to list any items for which you require a higher sum insured. Please include make or model details where applicable.

A premium of $200 applies on a per trip basis for specified item cover, regardless of how many high value items you might include. The maximum sum insured for all luggage and personal belongings remains unchanged.

Specified item cover increases the per item sublimit however the overall limit for the Luggage, personal belongings and travel documents section remains the same.

Sporting equipment, including bicycles and surfboards, cannot be specified.

In the event of a claim you must be able to provide proof of the items value such as purchase receipts or valuations.

 

Proof of value and depreciation

Items covered under Benefit F. (Luggage, personal belongings and, travel documents) are covered for their current value, up to the amount of any sublimit, at the time of the loss, damage or theft. 

If you have taken optional cover for a Specified Item you must be able to provide reasonable proof of the item’s value.

We may apply depreciation to a Specified Item but we won’t depreciate any item where you can support the value with a purchase receipt or official valuation from a certified valuer that is dated within the 12 months prior to the date you purchased Specified Item cover.

If we do depreciate an items value, the following table will be used.
