Age Limits

There is no cover under this policy for travellers aged 90 years or older at the date they are scheduled to depart on their trip.

There are also limitations for cover provided to travellers aged 75-89 years at the date they are scheduled to depart on their trip, specifically:

• Section J. 1. Cancellation, Overseas Medical and Additional Expenses:
  • Cover for cancellation is limited to a maximum of $5,000.
  • There is no cover under this section for:
    • Medical expenses,
    • Medical related expenses (including but not limited to medical repatriation/evacuation or accompanying person expenses);
    • Extra travel expenses arising from your injury or illness;
    • Bed care Patient Benefit; or 
    • Burial Expenses/Return of Mortal Remains.

Further to the above described cover limitations applicable for both Advantage Platinum and Business card types;

There is no cover for Mature Travellers under the following sections for BNZ Advantage Visa Platinum Cardholders:

• Section J. 7. Loss of Income
• Section J. 11. Epidemic and Pandemic Cancellation, overseas medical and additional expenses 

There is no cover for Mature Travellers under the following sections for BNZ Advantage Business Cardholders:

• Section J. 6. Loss of Income
• Section J. 10. Epidemic and Pandemic Cancellation, overseas medical and additional expenses

Cover you can purchase for Mature Travellers

Travellers aged 75 years and older (including over age 90) can apply to remove some age limitations described above and any extension of cover in this context is referred to as Mature Traveller cover. This type of cover can only be purchased prior to your departure from New Zealand.

If you are aged between 75 and 89 years (inclusive), you can apply to remove the age limits applicable to:

(For BNZ Advantage Visa Platinum Cardholders)

• Section J.1. Cancellation, Overseas, Medical and Additional Expenses;
• Section J.11 Epidemic and Pandemic Cancellation, overseas, medical and additional expenses

(For BNZ Advantage Business Cardholders)

• Section J.1. Cancellation, Overseas, Medical and Additional Expenses;
• Section J.10 Epidemic and Pandemic Cancellation, overseas, medical and additional expenses

If you are 75 to 89 years of age and you choose not to purchase mature age cover you will still be covered for non-medical benefits other than those listed above however this site will not produce a confirmation of cover letter. If you are aged 90 years and older, you can apply for cover under all benefits stated in the policy except:

• Section J. 5. Accidental Death
• Section J. 6. Accidental Death and Disablement (Common Carrier)
• Section J. 7. Loss of Income
